# Custom Domain

Connect your own domain so your share links live on it instead of `mdflow.cz`.

**Custom domain is a Pro feature.** You can connect **one** domain.

## Setting it up

1. Go to **Settings** and add your domain.
2. MDflow shows you the **DNS records to add** at your registrar.
3. Add them, and MDflow **checks the connection status while DNS propagates**.

DNS propagation is not instant. The status check exists so you can tell the difference between "not working yet" and "misconfigured".

## What changes

Once connected, the **document and collection sharing panels offer two URLs**:

- **The custom-domain URL** — on your domain.
- **The permanent MDflow-domain URL** — on `mdflow.cz`.

Both work. You choose which to hand out.

**Private-share invitation emails prefer the custom-domain URL** while your domain is connected, so recipients see a link on your domain rather than mdflow.cz.

## Which URL should you use?

The naming is a hint: one is described as **permanent**.

- **Use the custom-domain URL** for anything public-facing where the domain is part of the message — published documentation, a shared knowledge base, links you put on a website.
- **Use the MDflow-domain URL** where longevity matters more than branding — a link in a signed contract, an archived reference, anything you cannot easily re-issue.

The reason is straightforward: your custom domain depends on your DNS and your registrar. If the domain lapses, changes hands, or its records are edited, links on it stop resolving. The MDflow-domain URL does not depend on any of that.

## Interaction with sharing

A custom domain changes **where a share link is served from**, not **who can read it**. All the usual rules still apply:

- Public links remain **unlisted links** — anyone with the URL can read them. See [01 Public Share Links](/doc/4691db3e-cee1-45b0-bad8-997709083105).
- Disabling sharing **permanently invalidates the link** on both domains at once.
- Private email shares still require the invited person to **sign in** with the invited address. See [02 Private Sharing by Email](/doc/2f9bcf96-ec27-400c-bd59-8d67391a8cf6).

## If Pro lapses

Custom domain is a Pro feature. Plan for your links to fall back to the MDflow domain if the subscription ends — another reason to prefer the permanent URL wherever a link needs to survive unattended. See [04 Free and Pro Plans](/doc/b55abc0c-ac5d-44cb-b5a5-22b3cc04a69f).
